The Best Way to Preserve Flowers

Whether you’re saving a memory, or working on an art project, preserving flowers is a great way to add some joy into your life and brighten up your space! And choosing the best way to preserve flowers is crucial.

Many people choose the wrong method to dry flowers and they don’t look as good as they could. There are two main ways to dry flowers, and which one you choose depends on the flower and the project.

In this post I am going to show you both methods, how to use them, and what flowers and projects are best for each.

Method 1: Pressing them in a Book

Best for:

  • Small flowers (like daisies)
  • Flower petals
  • Leaves
  • Any project where you need little bits of dried flowers, like resin projects
  • Flat flowers with only one or two layers of petals

How to Press Flowers in a Book

Find the flower(s) you’d like to preserve

Get the biggest/heaviest book you have, or several books to stack

Pick a spot towards the middle to end of the book

Put paper towels on the pages that will be pressing the flower(s)

Carefully close the book and optionally stack several books on top of the book with the flower(s) for more weight

I hope this will be helpful in helping you save your memories and create some beautiful art! Choosing the best way to preserve flowers will make all the difference, I promise!

I used method 2 to save a few of the roses from the first bouquet of roses my boyfriend gave me. I displayed them in a glass dome like Beauty and the Beast. They’re so beautiful and helped me save a special memory!
